I FINALLY HAVE A BED
22/07/2010
And so, after sleeping for more than a year on my oldest brother’s handmedown SOFA BED, I finally am the proud new owner of an actual bed.
Yesterday marked chaos in the Yap household after returning from IKEA, because putting in my new bed meant taking out the old bed -> meant taking out Caleb’s old bed frame and putting the old bed there as a sofa -> meant ALL THE TOOLS WERE OUT hammers and screwdrivers and whatnot. We could literally compete with the lift construction outside. BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANGGGGG.
Moving of furniture always means MASSIVE UPHEAVAL and also time for some cleaning out and makeovering. Which is exactly what I did to my room.. took about a few hours k. NO JOKE.
K, it kinda looks the same because my main furniture frame is built in la, what to do. But as you can see, my NEW bed is half the size of my old one – and hoorah I didn’t fall off it last night while tossing and turning. In other changes, check out my sizable nail polish collection:
BOOYAH. My pride and joy, somewhat.
I also put my 12931203 polaroids to work, and now more of them are up on display. Yay! Spot the ACJC Class of 2006 flag hanging proud as well :)
I LOVE WAKING UP TO A NEW AND BEAUTIFUL ROOM.
After all this, my sincere condolences to Gideon, whose sleeping situation has still not been improved. He has become quite at home in the balcony after the past year.

DIY Projects
17/05/2010
My precious few hours at home after work have been spent doing this:
Cutting up old jeans. Studding.
Its still kinda at a weird length though. I should fold the cutoffs a bit higher or something. Work in progress.
HI B IF YOU ARE READING THIS DONT FREAK OUT! Um.. I kinda cut up the Zara shirt you left behind.
And braided bits of the sleeves.. and took apart that charm necklace..
<3
x
Hmm.. strange how a long day at work triggers off my DIY spirit. I am literally grabbing anything unworn around the house and cutting it up. And yes, I had some failed projects. But practice makes perfect! I asked my dad for his old shirts from the States. Those are thrift-store worthy and would be perfect to make into oversized tanks! Pity he has no idea of where my mom stored them :( WELL, EXPECT ME TO BE TOSSING OPEN DRAWERS AND CLOSETS AND PILES OF CLOTHING.
DIY is so fun and therapeutic.
AND I found the Perfect scissors. Snip snip snip.
Productive me
12/04/2010
Goodbye to unproductive stayhome days (at least for today)!
Things I did in the past 2 hours:
1. Refolded and reorganized my closet + discarded unwanted old clothes.
One dilemma I faced was whether or not to throw out my old Nanyang/AC shirts which have withered with age and now look like rags. So many memories right there. In the end, I decided to CUT OUT (yes you heard that right) the print/design on this shirts and keep them in a small pouch. I can’t help it if I’m Sentimental okay. Maybe I’ll make a scrapbook outta them or something…
x
2. Changed my bedsheets and covers.(Spot Comfort bear/SOAKCITY bear & the Kiwi!)
So much for CNY spring cleaning that should’ve happened 2 months ago. I remember when I was a kid and new sheets were a MUST. I guess this CNY I was too preoccupied with YJ to care. But anyhoo, bought some new ones at Ikea awhile back and was too lazy to change them. Now I have new smelling sheets! :)
x
3. Mopped the floor.
Channeling my inner Cinderella. (i figured a picture of my clean floor wouldn’t be very intriguing)
x
4. Found lost treasures!
Which include the pouch that Allen gave us before he left Berkeley that his MOM KNITTED (over a warm China fire), the Guiness Mardi Gras chain that I caught over the bartop, a ball of yarn from my Knit fever last year…..and so on. Featured above are the collection of handmade cards Shawna gave me last year! :) I kinda wana stick them on my laptop.
x
At the end of this, I will have you know that housework is tiring. Props to Cinderella.
Shiny things

My DIY spirit has resurfaced (briefly) again!
Each top only cost me 5 bucks :) I am so proud of myself! I’m still a noob when it comes to DIY (sigh, when I wear this out you can probably spot the uneven rows and for one row of the pink sweater there’s an awkward space in between two rows ARGGGHH imperfection) BUT I’m really EXTREMELY pleased ttm with the results :) Can’t wait to wear them out soon!
x
In other news,
x I went for my interview in the morning today. Lets just say if I weren’t schooling now, I’d be having my dream job. But because I’m schooling, I’ll have to wait for them to get back to me for later postings in the summer. Fingers crossed! And thankful nonetheless.
x Went for a pedicure. And my pedicurist today was a deaf lady. It was a really strange experience, and I really didn’t know quite what else to do except smile whenever she gave me the thumbs up to ask if what she was doing was okay. So. Interesting.
x I finished Dear John while riding the bus home (and during the pedi). (SPOILER AHEAD) HOW ABOUT THE ENDING IS SO RIDICULOUSLY SAD EVEN SADDER THAN THE MOVIE actually the movie wasn’t even that sad BUT ZOMG. And some paragraphs of the book were really jumping out at me.
x ITS FRIDAY, I’M IN LOVE!

Thanksgiving concepts
29/11/2009
Thanksgiving weekend just passed. We don’t quite celebrate Thanksgiving in Singapore (sadly), but I think its a precious concept that reminds us to count our blessings.
What are you Thankful for?
x
I came across this post from A Beautiful Mess, and I thought it was SO CUTE and pretty much an ingenious idea altogether. It made me smile :)
Thanksgiving cupcakes with cupcake toppers to write down things to be thankful for.
:)
Awesome, isn’t it?
I definitely wana try doing something like this in the near future! It doesn’t have to be a certain time of the year to let people know the blessings in our life :)
x
Sigh, I have four exams in the next four days.. definitely not something I’m psyched about, but I’m still thankful for the time that has been given to study, the friends I have to study with, and the experience of mugging together that I missed out on for one semester!
xoxo and all the best, guys :)
DIY: Studs
23/11/2009
First yarn & knitting, now studs and embellishments :)
I am pleased with my new DIY spirit.
x
So I finally got hold of the studs & rhinestones I ordered from ebay, and picked out a few boring and forgotten cardigans/tanks/tops.. and voila! Awesome is my middle name.
This was the first project attempted. And I have to admit I was Stupid because I didn’t realize the studs could be ironed-on, which resulted in my wrestling with the glue gun for quite a while (and a burn on my fingertip OUCH).
:( I wish I had realized earlier! Then the studs wouldve been much neater and cleaner.
These other 2 were random spur-of-the-moments.
So.. I’ve kinda used up all my studs already. EBAY HERE I COME.
x
Learning new skills + creating new things from old things = little joys!
x
I had alot of thoughts and small reflections during church today, but I know if I begin now its going to end up in a 1920123 word essay.. which probably isn’t the wisest thing to do right now when I should be heading for bed soon.
:)
Another week ahead! The final moments before the exams. I am bracing myself, and praying.
xoxo

More of Blake Lively’s Asymmetrical Awesomeness:

And if I had one more chance at prom…

ZOMG <3
x
Today, I…
x dyed my hair
x organised notes for Monday (aka the beginning of the end)
x did some yoga on Wii Fit for the first time in 522 days, so my WII INSTRUCTOR informed me. Easy on the sarcasm there, virtual dude.
x knit myself a headband :)
I am so addicted to DIY-ing things now that I know how to knit! Haha I hope we have lunch at Plaza Sing tmr, then I can get more yarn from Spotlight! HURRAH!
Project G completed :)
09/11/2009

I started it 2 months ago, and its finally completed! :)
Albeit with many strange holes and inconsistent widths, but altogether its a pretty awesome product of my first knitting project ever.
I AM SO PROUD OF MYSELF.
All the frustration of knottings and unravellings and mistakes were worth it! It is an awesome four-coloured scarf of tan, maroon, navy and purple. I was wearing it and looking in the mirror just now.. I think it looks better on me than YJ. HAHA maybe I should just keep it and send him a card for his birthday.
x
At least I can say that this year, I finished something that I started.
:)

HAHA FUNNY I LIKE THIS.
x
Okay so updates on Project G (if you even cared in the first place).
The series of events over the weekend:
x Sat, 12/09: realize that I’m going to need more yarn, go to spotlight to realize that their yarn is GONE because they are doing restocking. ZOMG.
x Sun, 13/09: actually run out of yarn (evidently I overestimated the powers of just one ball)
x Mon 14/09: JACKIE, SHOULD I GO BUY YARN OR GO SHOPPING? (to which she replies something along the lines of buy yarn la up to you im going to get my twisties. -.-)
x Frantically search online for another place on this island that sells yarn & needles
x Results: CHINATOWN, GOLDEN DRAGON, PEOPLE’S PARK CENTRE
x Mix up People’s park complex and People’s park centre
x Finally get to the place (like an oasis in the desert), choose my yarn, almost going to pay
x Woman-in-the-store comes up to me and asks what I am knitting and I reply; to which she exclaims, cannot anyhow use any kind of yarn leh, scully the person got sensitive neck/head how??
x To which I realize is a good point. I return home with yarn of better quality & new needles.
x Renders me starting from scratch.
x ZOMG.
Project DIY
20/09/2009
Went a-lunching with Mae & Kiyoko at Sakae Sushi this afternoon, mulled over Spotlight running out of yarn, Mae’s new future job (and hair! bangzzzzz), the blogshop bazaar at Far East.. before Mae and I actually went down to Far East to take a look at some stuff.
My current financial situation is extremely dismal, but I am being optimistic about prospects of new avenues for earning a few bucks.
So it didn’t help that I hadn’t been to Far East in forever and everything looked so tempting and reasonably priced, AND that Mae kept suggesting items that I should get, AND there was a bazaar going on at the atrium.
Along the way we came across this bag:

Mae made me try it on and it was the cutest thing ever (and I love Domokun arr arr!) but sadly I decided against it at the moment. Maybe I’ll save up for it. Then again there are a gazillion other things at Far East that I want to get..
Every shop we went into had studded items. Everything was VERY DESIRABLE but also we observed that studded items are the easiest kind of fashion to DIY. So I, being broke on a budget, have decided to take up my original project that I wanted to start during the holidays. DIY-ing my old clothes.
This afternoon I perused Ebay for studs & such. Click click click, and away they went, across oceans.. to Berkeley. I think YJ is going to kill me when he finds out I sent 2 bags of studs to his doorstep and that he has to send it, along with a heap of other items, back to Singapore. Whoops.
Armed with a glue gun and Ebay embellishments, I will be on my way.
Crossing fingers!
Project Grandmother
18/09/2009

via feltmates
YEAH IF ONLY MINE LOOKED THAT CUTE.
Project Grandmother, or for more dramatic effect, Project Grandma-in-a-rocking-chair has begun as of yesterday. This was birthed from the brainstorming of what to get YJ for his birthday (which is an incredible 2 months from now but I have exams in Nov and thank God I started now because knitting is the slowest process ever.)
So.. went down to Spotlight yesterday (sale on yarns! whee!) and grabbed some stuff, taught myself some basics via youtube, struggled with the first row for 6 times in an hour and restarted like goodness knows how many times.. and then I finally got the hang of it :)
I’m kinda wishing my yarn was of better quality, but I decided that this is just a trial run anyway. If I really get the hang of this, I might do something more challenging! And nicer-looking! Yeah don’t get your hopes up, my fingers are dying already.
Last night while chatting with Jackie she was all like, you’d better hope he has a small neck, get him a platter of cut fruits instead (inside joke), etc. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INPUT, POOHDEVIL. (I actually sekretly love our meaningless conversations please talk to me. HAHA.)
If this trial run takes forever (and I think it just might), that boy will just have to appreciate my ugly-as-hell attempt at a red scarf.
Today’s mini-project
22/07/2009

… was to clean up and out my trinkets. Muji containers ftw. I am so going back there to get more! As much as I wish that I could re-do my entire room (darn this built in furniture nonsense) to my hearts desire, I guess this small area will have to suffice as my only expression of individualism. There are strange, tiny bursts of liberation in chucking away unwanted/unused items. That being said, I realised that I have about 26 rings and counting (some are missing!! WHERE ARE MY RINGS). I do not know if I should be proud or ashamed of myself.
I went to the THE ION today, and walked around *starry eyed*. It is truly magnificent because it has every single shop that I frequent in one location, in air conditioned comfort. I found it hilarious that Level 1-4 was so super atas and pristine with its shiny floors, white washed walls and bombastic brands, obviously aimed at them angmohs; then once you hit the four levels of basements you find the familiar sight of Singaporeans scattered throughout the building, bustling their way through the food and shopping – the aunties, impatient husbands, teenage lovebirds, and wailing children in strollers.
Oh yes, and in the basement I found Peking duck for $6. Omytiannnn.
