So I lied. About trying to blog. About updating with BKK photos. BECAUSE I’M NOT EVEN TRYING. Because I up to my eyelids with 3000 word essays due in the next 10 days and I am GGXX already. But I think I should still leave some trace of activity here.. before I get swallowed up entirely.

I was never that big a fan of David Choi – I liked some of his songs and all, but twas never crazy over him like I am WONGFU & KEVJUMBA (<33) – but after watching him live tonight, I’VE BECOME A FAN!!!!

I really like this place other than the fact they kept coming around every 5 minutes asking us if we want to order more drinks. -.- I was on the brink of carrying out Marcus’ suggestion of WHERES YOUR MANAGER. I AM A PAYING CUSTOMER.

Majority of what made me really like DChoi was that he was so funny and down to earth. AND SMALL AND CUTE. He messed up quite a few times on the high notes and he was so paiseh about it he couldn’t finish his song properly HAHA but it was really funny. + he had alot of audience interaction/Q&A. + THE CALIFORNIAN ACCENT IS ALWAYS WIN – which Geri pointed out reminded us of Andrew :’(((

Did I mention he sounds really good live? YAY. His set included WON’T EVEN START & THAT GIRL (which are the only 2 songs I know ALL the lyrics for), and a song about a girl picking her nose which I thought was really cute. YAYY.

It really was quite surreal seeing him in real life when usually I’m so used to watching him on youtube.. and he talks to you like you’re just a normal friend. SUPER FANGIRL MOMENT + TRYING TO KEEP COOL RIGHT THERE.

I was telling Geri that if Wong Fu comes to Singapore, and they have a autograph/photo session like this, I swear I’ll be too STARSTRUCK+FANGIRL+HYPERVENTILATING+DYING to even say anything. OMG.

Got back from Nav Encounters Camp 2010 :)

The highlight of my camp was the last night of spontaneous music making and interspersed conversation.. all the way into the A.M.

Daph, Derik (with cap on) & PIANO BOY (aka magic music man). Sherman is not featured in the photo BUT HE DESERVES SPECIAL MENTION cos he is so funny. STAIRWELL SINGING (Kina Grannis reference haha!) was amazing! And because of the  magic music man, we could pretty much sing any song we wanted. Because he knew how to play everything after just hearing one line of it O_O

We progressed from the stairwell and then back to the main room (AIRCON HAHA), and the jamming + conversation continued all the way into the wee hours and I think I could have stayed there forever other than the fact that my body was protesting.

The night before, there was actually a mini-session of this already cos I was singing a series of disney songs with piano boy on the piano and Daph in&out on the violin.

Just for the heck of it, I wana list all the songs that we sang .. or at least what I can remember!!

AND MY FAVOURITE OF ALL!! LOVE, ME BY COLIN RAYE. Piano boy randomly started playing the intro on guitar and my eyes got really wide and I was like OMG I KNOW THIS SONG SO LONG AGO I USED TO LOVE IT IN LIKE SECONDARY SCHOOL AHHHHHH!!!!! And then I started singing and ALL THE LYRICS CAME BACK TO ME. Madness ttm.

I don’t usually rant paragraphs about musicians or music, but this one totally deserves it.

Just came back from the Corinne Bailey Rae concert, and I am like going insane with wonder like I just saw AN ANGEL DESCEND FROM HEAVEN!!!! No words can fully describe how amazingly talented this artist is, nor how much beauty there is both in her person and her work. By the third song I was dying already (Geri can vouch for this HAHA) – I was totally not expecting to be this blown away. To be honest, I think she sounds WAY better live than on record. IMAGINE THAT. HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE!?!?

Every single song was sung with such power and raw emotion that not even for a moment could you tear your eyes or your ears away from it. ON TOP OF IT ALL, HER INSANE BAND. OMG. The band is so crazy talented and well put together; they complemented each other in every way possible – each arrangement was impeccably executed. AND HER VOICE – HER VOICEEEE – IT SINGS DIRECTLY TO YOUR SOUL. Not even to your HEART where all the fluffy feelingfeelings lie, but to your SOUL in the deepest recesses where your hidden emotions are buried (!!! NOT EVEN KIDDING)

I’d have to disclaimer that if you weren’t a fan and hadn’t heard her songs before, you probably wouldn’t have liked it as much, mainly because you wouldn’t have been able to make out the lyrics she was singing. AND FOR CBR, PART OF THE MAGIC IS THAT HER LYRICS ARE LIKE, CRYSTALS FALLING FROM HEAVEN AND INTO YOUR CUSHIONED EARS, AND THEN PENETRATING YOUR BRAIN LIKE DYNAMITE. (AND THEN EXPLODING INTO FAIRYDUST WITHIN YOUR MIND)

Her encore song was a surprise to everybody, a familiar tune by Doris Day that everyone knows by heart. But the beauty of CBR is that she makes an indelible mark on every song she covers, and this arrangement + last encore performance was freaking unicorn level mind-blowing (as you can tell I am running out of analogies to describe how amazing this was). Managed to find a really good youtube recording of her band doing the song.

Of course this doesn’t really do justice to what it actually sounded like LIVE.

CAN YOU IMAGINE LISTENING TO THIS LIVE, WITH HER BAND DECKED OUT IN FULL AND HER MAGICAL VOICE RESOUNDING AROUND THE ENTIRE ESPLANADE HALL AND BURSTING THROUGH THE CEILINGS!? IT WAS PIN DROP SILENCE AND WHEN SHE FINISHED EVERYONE WENT INSANE. My life will never be the same.

I think this is a beautiful song and a beautiful video! So inspiring and wonderful :)

I’ve been psyching myself up for the final match by watching World Cup commercials and such. I LOVE WORLD CUP COMMERCIALS. They appeal to the emotionalwrecks with ten million soft spots like myself – as do Olympic commercials.

Also, caught the last bit of a documentary on the History Channel about the History of Football, where one story was recounted by a soldier during a war. On Christmas Eve, the battling soldiers came out of their trenches and made truce for half an hour, singing christmas carols.. followed by a game of football. The war continued for another three years, but there were no gunshots heard for that half an hour, and everything was forgotten but the joy of the game. Some sports are beautiful in that way. I really respect that.

Tonight, I’m leaning more toward rooting for Spain, but I think both teams really deserve to be where they are, and whoever wins will deserves it! This world cup has been amazing to follow & watch, because its been impossibility after impossibility. And it is such a comforting and wonderful thought that in real life, the impossibilities actually happen.

P.S. THE BRASS INSTRUMENT THAT APPEARS ON THE BUS & TWD THE END IS A EUPHONIUM AKA THE INSTRUMENT I PLAYED WHEN I WAS IN NYGH CONCERT BAND aka the instrument that no one knows about aka the instrument that is not a tuba. I miss my eupho.

I watched this on the bus and HAD NO ONE TO GUSH TO (so I retweeted it). The last few scenes WERE MIND BLOWING. Wongfu has surpassed my expectations yet again! And I thought the AJ Rafael MV was good. This one nearly ripped my bleeding heart out. I am probably exaggerating. /edit THEN AGAIN MAYBE NOT (I just watched it again).

3. GLEE SPOILER ALERT: I DREAMED A DREAM BY IDINA MENZEL & LEA MICHELLE.

NPH IS AS EPIC AS EVER BUT THE REAL HIGHLIGHT OF THIS EPISODE HAD TO BE THIS MOMENT. Hands down. My favourite musical? And my favourite song from my favourite musical, too? Really? REALLY?? Listening to this song Always gives me chills. But having it ON GLEE and sung by Two Amazing Powerhouses (who look freakishly alike. Nice casting there) with such crazy vocals that pierce through your soul is another level of Having Chills altogether.
