First up, let’s just congrat my lovely cousin on tying the knot!
Things to note about this photo:
x Hanhan jie’s wedding gear is AMAZING. It is exquisite.
x Handsome couple, yes?
x TO THE LEFT OF THIS PHOTO: YES THAT IS ROZZ. (And if you care, that guy is a chinese DJ from 93.3fm apparently he’s pretty famous too)
BUT YES, THAT IS ROZZ.
She hosted my cousins wedding!!!!!! GAAAH *DIES*. She wasn’t hired or anything, oh ok context – my cousin is actually a DJ so they’re friends. BOOYA.
This gushing might come across pretty stupid esp to my family (=brothersandfather) because in the car on the way to the dinner, the conversation went down like this.
Me: ZOMG Hanhan jie said Rozz is hosting her wedding!! SO EXCITE.
Brothers & father: Who is Rozz?
Me: WHAT!! THE DJ WITH THE STAR TATTOO SHES RLY COOL
Brothers & father: Who is that..
Gid: Oh is she the one in the show with Xiaxue.
Me: -.- Yes.
MORE PHOTOS EVIDENCE OF ROZZ and random 93.3fm guy and at the end, I think that was the DJ/radio station people table! Actually I just wanted to get a photo of her star tats. Hahaha mission accomplished! K now on the wedding proper. Sry about that.
x
Hanhan jie’s wedding dinner = THE BEST I’VE ATTENDED.
Good menu? check. Good location? check. Good crowd? (WE SPOTTED JACK NEO!! And generic medicorp lady who always acts as people’s mothers on ch 8!! Lets not forget Rozz of course.) CHECK. Good music items? TOTALLY CHECK (video for proof later). And the list goes on..
And for the first time in forever, my entire family was there to grace the occasion – all the Yap children present!
Brothers competing in Announcer voices. HAHA.
Events of the night included:
playing with our far-far-far removed (I am unsure) little cousin Hope, and making Matthew cry because I called him KEVIN cos it was printed on his shirt, as well as the rest of the extended family gushing over SARAH the newborn – (EVIDENCE BELOW)
Btw this photo is priceless. Play spot the differences! Its pretty difficult I warn you.
Another huge part of the night shall be represented in the following photo, which might come across as rather dodgy.
But I would have to say that it characterized the rest of the events of the night.
Note the redness in the faces that shall be known as the Yap family’s Curse of Obvious Intoxication (even though we didn’t even drink that much – ok, at least Caleb and I didn’t. I shall not speak for the other two).
AND THIS IS EVIDENCE OF DAKORKOR TRYING TO BRIBE GIDEON INTO DODGY ACTIVITY. I will leave out details, but essentially Gid succumbed to Dakorkor’s chants and persuasion, which resulted in him regretting right about half an hour later. I WARNED YOU. Free flow of red wine at weddings = bad idea.
x
Toastings and YAMSENGS!
And the beauty that is Hanhan jie’s second gown change for the dinner <3
x
This ex-DJ called Kewei sang a few items for the wedding (along with Jacky Cheung sound-alike). SHE IS REALLY GOOD. (AND WAS ALSO WEARING RET.) She has a youtube channel here. You can check it out! :)
x
Once again, WHERE IS CHERYL?
And last but not least, the Yap family in full :)
x
Alrighty lengthy post indeed, ironically I just came back from ANOTHER wedding (not dinner though, just reception!). And I need my beauty sleep. Goodnight and have a good weekend!
We have returned at the stroke of midnight from Hanhan jie’s FABULOUS wedding dinner at Marina Mandarin, one of the best I’ve ever attended. The quality of dishes, beautiful outfit changes, celebrity spottings, and the unlimited free flow of red wine, just to name a few out of the many highlights of the night!
The night was plagued with Dakorkor (aka LOS master) corrupting Gid into chugging red wine. This resulted in a lobster-red Gideon throughout the entire dinner (refer to pictorial evidence above), and towards the end, BOOMZ. Crash and burn, baby! I have to say that as a responsible older sister, I did warn you at the third glass that you were going to regret it :)
Many photos which I am eager to share, because this blog has lacked personal photographic touch for a loooong while now, which only means that my life has been really boring of late. Guilty as charged.
I’ll try and get them up soon, but don’t count on it – the clock of essay deadlines is ticking and its ticking really fast. Meanwhile, just one above to whet your appetite – my clutch in the gap represents Cheryl Sarah Lee who is Absent from the family festivities. Shame on you, woman!
x Finished 2 presentations that both went really well. Especially enjoyed one that essentially enabled me to showoff all my travel photos and tell stories about them. HOHO. I love you, fairygodmother in a green sweater.
x Project G: I have started on my third ball of yarn! OHYEH. Close to completion, but then comes the hard part. Tying up those loose ends.
x I’ve downloaded Picasa 3 for Mac and as we speak they are scouring the corners of my laptop for all my photos :)
x
In other news, Jackie and I have discovered that GCHAT HAS VIDEO FUNCTIONS and we learnt how to use it resulting in what you see below:
The woman has a friggin lightsaber in her apartment.
She then went on to show me her new photo collage wall of Berkeley photos. We are now plastered all over her wall. Very Nice.
I remember when we were like 3 or 4 and were staying in our trailer home in Amerika, we used to have an ice cream truck like that which always came around. I know I always used to buy the same one but I can’t remember which – I know Caleb always chose the ninja turtle one.
I love ice cream.
But today I had, well, an overdose of both B&Js in the afternoon with my tuition kids and Island Cremery at night with my family.
Yikes. Okay ice-cream abstinence starts all over again.
x
This morning’s service and post-service time was very enlightening and recharging, to say the least. I am very amazed at how God caters to our needs. My takehome is that we are constantly engaged in spiritual warfare, although we tend not to think about our lives in that way. I wrote down a whole bunch of other stuff that was both therapeutic and necessary. Stand firm!

Monday is the first day of the recess week from Uni. Yeaya.
This was the glorious 4 hours spent at Partyworld KTV on a Saturday afternoon.
The array of cousins, ages ranging 19 to 30+, from single to married. The complete collection of cousins are missing due to reasons of new childbirth, wedding plans, migration and the like.
Getting back in touch with the old school chinese pop, long lost love for those familiar tunes, and some new ones introduced. Bliss! Cathartic! I so want to go to karaoke again!
Here are some videos of the afternoon:
My brother leading us in a Jay Chou chant of 爸我回来了!
And this is their valiant attempt at singing the impossible song that is 千里之外. Haha ace! (I apologize for the random chatter of Cheryl & I in the background)
Last Monday, we celebrated the first month of our NEWBORN NIECE, SARAH :) Aunties twice over now, yeya! Okay there should be no reason why I am actually HAPPY about being an auntie. Moving on now.
All I have to say is that the buffet at Trader’s Hotel was PHENOMENAL. Hadn’t been to a buffet in forever, so this was truly a massive feast. Of every kind of local/jap/peranakan dish. KUEH PAI TI WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE?
Brothers giving love to Matthew, our first nephew. This little dude now has to share all the attention he’s been getting for the last 3 years with his newborn sister!
And now for the star of the show..
Oh she is so perfect, red and tiny. Dakorkor’s first reaction was “wrinkled” but I’d prefer to pass on that description.
Comparisons of the two siblings/only two of the next generation that has been born thus far (one more on the way, though! *RUBS HANDS IN GLEE*) :
Matthew, aka Thomas the train lover, aka the apple of everyone’s eye (LOOK AT HIM IN THE THIRD PHOTO HE KNOWS HE KNOWS), aka to quote Cheryl, “he’s dressed in more brands than I know.”
Sarah, a month old, and is what babies should all be. TINY AND CUTE. P/S Check out the bandit baby look in the last frame; this was the result of much of her nightmarish fidgeting in the stroller.
Last night when I was out of the house, my brother put up eerie IKEA bird lights around my room and thought that it would scare me when I got back home.
They look like buddist altar lights, except in the shape of birds. Good going, Gid.
Here you go DAKORKOR. I will now (quote) “post photos of our fine dining and reserve a separate post to extol your virtues as an elder brother and person”. HAHAHA.
Dinner in San Fran on Friday night. At the SALT HOUSE, which was the restaurant selected by Dakorkor’s atas banker/onlinegamer/hwach/army friend, who didn’t even join us for dinner but had the privilege of doing the reservations for us. Ahaha.
And our fine dining food, courtesy of the brother – or rather, courtesy of the Singapore Armed Forces :) Aha. OOH AND I KOPED THE SING CITY MUSICAL 2 NOW I HAVE THE WHOLE THING! HOHO cannot wait to watch it with the rest.
The Brothers Yap put up the sequel to the musical that was done 2 years ago at Penn – Sing, City 2! Thanks to the brother, we got VIP seats on the couch even though we were slightly late hoho. And then we had the most entertaining two hours of our holiday. SO FUN. Here are some photos. Sorry they are all yellow-ish.
Oh yes, I forgot to mention all the SINGAPOREANZ I met on the trip to Philly.
Jon, TAN SIYOU!!!!!!! GAHH!!! Zhiwei, Limmy, and Daph! And of course my brother as well :) SO happy seeing all of them there.
I think I appreciated the musical this time so much more because I actually fully understood all the inside jokes about being a freshie and trying new things, having late night snacks, inside jokes, loneliness disease, instant noodle metaphors, and so on :) Twas awesome.
OKAY PARENTS IM GETTING TO THE VIDEOS PLEASE WAIT.
xx
Excerpts of songs. I’m just going to post the lyrics of the portions that are in the video.
FRESH. The song that GOT STUCK IN OUR HEADS THE WHOLE PLANE RIDE BACK TO SF.
If you’re gonna be fresh
You can only get better
Cos we got the time to try
We’re not gonna be fresh forever
But just for now
Time is on our side
Lets make a toast to making the most (of our time)
Of a bad situation
Here’s to procrastination!
To weed! To grass! To sleeping in class!
To sweatpants with juicy written all over the ass!
THATS MY MACDONALDS. We related very strongly to this song about late night food snacking.
There’s a Macs at fortieth street
Where the trust fund kids and the homeless meet
Where every man wants to be
At the front of the queue
That’s my Macdonalds
Eating bad food to stay awake (its alright)
You can be my Macdonald’s break every night
There’s one place where the doors don’t close
And they don’t turn out the lights
Staying up on a sugar rush (is alright)
Never liked the food as much (as you)
You’re my happy meal at the end of the golden arches
RANDOM SCHOOL FACILITY. You can only hear lots of shouting and laughing for this video, sadly.
I never expected to be
Hit by the love of a lifetime (of a lifetime)
In a random school facility
We never imagined to meet
Someone especially special (oh so special)
For the very first time
In a random school facility
SEKALI I. But I already gave the link to the full song on Mr Brown’s blog, complete with lyrics.
Sekali you (maybe you)
Don’t want me (you dowan my love)
And maybe you (sekali you)
Jio another zar bo more pretty
Oh my heart picha (ping ping piang piang)
Into many small small pieces
I pray to Buddha Mohammed Ganesh and Jesus
That sekali you
Will be mine (zo wa eh sim kua)
No words can replace (no need for translation)
Regardless of race (language or religion)
As long as you understand the language of love
Is when I hold your hand
Then that’s good enough (good enough)
For me
Steady bom pi pi
xx
The next morning we met with everyone for brunch in Chinatown at a dimsum restaurant. AWESOME FOODZ CAN. After which we had to take a bus back to NYC and then to JFK to catch our flight back. Very interestingly, I sat with TEOH ZHIWEI for the two hour bus ride to NY cos he was also going back, and we had to most strange and hilarious conversation EVER. I don’t usually talk to Zhiwei for long periods of time one on one, but ohmygosh so funny can. We were totally reminiscing and talking about the good ol days, all the stupid things that had happened, stories, and I was also being HARASSED for a good one hour of the trip – he even CALLED UP CALEB to discuss his matchmaking plans for me mytian. But it was reallaye reallaye fun, catching up after that long. Zhiwei is so retarded.
The events of the day. The first photo was taken on the bus ride with Jon to Philly, where he drastically fell asleep halfway while mixing music on his laptop. HA.
The flight back was pretty disastrous cos we got delayed like one and a half hours due to bad weather and when we took off THE TURBULENCE WAS MAD I think we were caught in a thunderstorm or something. The plane was rocking violently like VIOLENTLY I thought I was going to die can. I was praying so hard but okay la I survived in the end by the grace of God. Hoho good to be alive.
xx
So ladies and gentlemen, that marks the end of my FUNTASTIK SPRING BREAK (and also the end of my word-picture vomit). I am really sad that it is over and I want it to last like 3 more weeks :( Or forever, if possible. But now its back to Ihouse and Berkeley – which is still home sweet home :)
And last but not least, a tribute to the two friends that flew all the way with me across the USA to spend a crammed four day holiday (but it was so good aye!) on the East side to accompany me cos I wanted to visit my brother.
For those who cannot wait (AKA TOSHIYUKIMORI), this is a video of one of the songs in Sing, City 2! – video taken by Mr Brown.
THIS IS MY FAVOURITE SONG HAHA IT TOTALLY REEKS OF MY OLDEST BROTHER I LOVE IT TO BITS. And on the plane ride we all couldn’t get it out of our heads. Hohohoho best song written ever, in my opinion. Please watch it, die laughing at all the jokes that only Singaporeans will get, and be proud to call yourself a Singaporean :)
AWW IT IS MY BABY BROTHER GIDEON YAP YONGZHI‘S BIRTHDAY AND HE TURNS EIGHTEEN TODAY. EVERYONE PLEASE GO AND WISH HIM AND GIVE HIM A GREAT BIG HUG ON MY BEHALF IF YOU SEE HIM WANDERING AROUND TOWN OR IN ACJC. OMGED GID YOU ARE EIGHTEEN YOU ARE OLD HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE THIS IS SO WEIRD AND STRANGE I THINK YOU SHOULD STAY FOREVER 10 WHEN YOU WERE A SQUEAKY YOUNG DUDE.
But in other words, thank you for being the Last Remaining Brother in the family so that I was not abandoned by myself to our parents who are lovely on good days and notsolovely on bad days HURHUR (okay parents I am kidding), and thank you for being the one who sings horrendously at the top of your lungs with me up and down the staircase, does interpretive dance with me in the living room, struts the ANTM RUNWAY WALK with me, have spontaneous baking and swimming cravings with me, indulges all my excessive photo taking with your stupid facial expressions and laughs uncontrollably with me at things that no one will understand.
And even though as the years go by, you get a little bit more grumpy and a little less spontaneous and little A WHOLE LOT MORE EMO (you need to stop being so emo ah its getting unhealthy and excessive okay), even though sometimes you are so annoying I want to pull off all the hairs on your head (LIKE WHEN YOU PUT MY SLIPPERS ON TOP OF THE CAR AND THEY WERE GONE WHEN WE REACHED CHURCH) – I must say, you are pretty awesome, and I LUFF YEW. Okay there, I said it, now you can send me a cupcake for my birthday. Thanks.
Cupcakes made by Dennis kor (Mmmm) and of course – THE PRESENT CORNER.
Matthew, our one and only nephew… NOT ANYMORE! Peggy jie is expecting again YAYYYY! HAPPINESS.
Dakor and Matthew have this very strange chemistry..
The bunch. Not everyone though, missing quite a few. But the bunch nonetheless :) Playing games, answering quizzes and singing carols.
THE STUPID LITTLE NONYA SHOW TOTALLY RUINED THE CHRISTMAS TRADITION THIS YEAR cos like some of the aunties wanted to watch it so we had to rush everything before 9pm. Roar. But after the present-opening and some of the older cousins leaving, the four of us remaining cousins had a little post-present photoshoot.
WORK THOSE SOCKS. (Gid and Sam’s presents hur)
HAHAHAHA then we set up a SOCK THEATRE HAHAHAHA right in front of the teevee and made our dads take photos.
Cheryl and I got the exact same presents (no surprise there!). But the presents are getting better! Kiehls! And makeup! Ahaha awesome. Hoho and we realised we had the exact same pair of wayfarers. AND we had matching blings. NICE.
The brothers. With identical presents as well.
We decided it was necessary to mourn the lost presence of our three little cousins and uncle and aunt who migrated to AUSTRALIA and thus have not been around the past few years :( MOURN.
Role playing with props.
Our various creative interpretations. HAHAHA.
OKAY AWARD WINNING PHOTO COMING UP…
Omged this photo is HILAYRIOUS I burst into peals of laughter when I saw it. The best part was it was totally spontaneous. WE ARE SO WEIRD OMGED. Actually Cheryl is the weird one. PLS LOOK AT HER FLYING LIMBS.
Cupcake appreciation time! Yum.
GIDEON STOLE MAMA’S CANE. YOU UNFILLIAL GRANDCHILD. HAHAHAHAHA.
The night ended on A LEGENDARY MOMENT. Where Cheryl and I realised that our moms were wearing THE EXACT SAME THING (Dark red tops with white capris and a small bag slung over their right shoulder) and we stopped in our tracks outside the lift and were like Omged they are wearing the same thing :O :O. Then our moms both entered the lift and Cheryl was like “Close the doors! Someone has to quarantine their fashion sense!” HAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHA HOW ABOUT I NEARLY DIED. THAT WAS A GOOD ONE CUZ. HAHAHA NICELY DONE.
